« on: September 30, 2014, 08:30:00 PM »
OK I'm at a show now and I cannot figure out what to set the 661 preset to get the signal from the mini me to 661. what should I set the dails to one both?

They're both set to the same bit/sample rate?  Is phantom power on the mini-me?  The 661 set to digital input?

Should the light on the mini me be red (I held the switch to the right for a few sec) to indicate phantom power on? yes bit rate the same.

Well, thats the basic checklist I can think of.  Not getting any signal at all?  Are you using just a regular RCA cable or a dedicated digi cable?  I'm pretty sure regular RCA cable over a few feet long can't hold the signal well enough.

I have a digital cable on the side. now I have levels just really hot. opening band is done. I might just ditch the mini me and go straight to the 661 since I have an oade mod on the car input

Hmm, that might help the issue for the time being but won't solve the root of the problem.  I haven't found the mini-me to be particularly hot, so not sure why its running so like it is for you.  I haven't tried it extensively myself but have read the soft limit can be a pretty good tool.  If you're running way over though, just putting a limiter on probably isn't the best way to fix it.

What kind of music, where are you set up?

I'm at Aaron freeman, ween! f in loud. The mini me is not over/brickwall nor is the 661. Both are max outed so either the recording will be great or suck.

If you switched it to SL the mini-me will put a soft limit on anything over -2.  If the signal was way too strong before you'll probably have a pretty squashed signal.  Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Your MiniMe internal jumpers may be set to high gain which could explain your hot levels at minimum gain.
mics: Soundfield ST450, JW mod Milab VIP-50's, Milab VM-44 Links (Matched Cards, Matched S-Cards), BR mod Nak 700's
pre's: Audio Developments AD 066(11), V2, Littlebox, Tinybox, Reutelhuber
recorders: Sonosax SX-R4, Tascam DR-680, Korg MR-1, Tascam DR-2, Mackie DL32R
playback: Teac UD-501 DAC > Meyer Sound

From the YS thread where he bought it the original seller said the jumpers were already set to low.

Just now before work I had a little time to play back the recording. Due to the "shit hole" (as described by Aaron before the show) venue I will not be spending time doing much with this recording. The venue was in Columbus called Basement, it is really bad. The ceiling was only 10 ft high and about a 2 feet from my mics. The base is saturating not to mention the crowded is drunk chatty. Additionally the sound guy had feedback issues on some songs.

Even though the recording is shit the show was great and I am happy I got the chance to use the Mini me. When I get more time I will take time detail how I had the 661 setup and the Mini me.

Getting insight into how others are using there gear would be great.

While writing this post (and listening) maybe two songs "golden monkey" and "for awhile I couldn't play my guitar" might be listenable.

as long as the 661 was set to digital input, no other settings/level adjustments on the 661 are relavent...  but i can't speak for the mini-me.
gotta be an issue with the mini-me or mikes or cables IMO.

This is correct. The 661 is nothing more than a bit bucket.

From the YS thread where he bought it the original seller said the jumpers were already set to low.

I think this should be double-checked. From all descriptions provided, it would seem most likely that the gain is still set to high. Using the soft-limit in this situation is not a solution.

Towards the end of the user manual explains how to do it.  Unscrew the top two screws on the front and back and the case should lift right off.  The jumpers are up by the XLR housings.
