very cool :)
not only for the 12 or 16 GB cards that we'll all use someday, but as those larger cards become more prevalent, it'll certainly drive down the cost of 8 GB cards even more. :)  a 16 GB card could hold 4 hours at 24/192, certainly enough for a whole show.  but actually, I'm not too interested in running at 192 kHz.  but a 16 GB card would be enough for 8 hours at 24/96 or 16 hours at 24/48.  a couple of those and you'd be all set for a festival...

But I still don't know if an 8Gb will work in my 671

maybe it's time to sell the 671 and buy an HD-P2   :P

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet.  these Sandisk ones were just announces today, and it'll certainly be a long time before they become "reasonably priced" for me to buy one.  but, generally speaking, based on reports here on TS.com it seems to me that the HD-P2 is a LOT less picky when it comes to CF cards, compared to the marantz devices (660, 671), and certainly compared to the MicroTrack.

but the sound of the 671 man, the sound.  :P i cant wait until someone gets an acmP2 close to me so we can do a comp between it and the acm671.

yeah, I'd be interested to hear a direct comp between the ACM PMD-671 and the ACM HD-P2.  but personally, it's more of a casual interest, because I'm more interested in functionality, useability, etc, etc, because I don't plan to ever run it as an "all-in-one"

anyway, we don't need to turn this into an HD-P2 vs. PMD-671 thread, because there are plenty of other threads for that discussion.
it would be sweet if these new 12 & 16 GB cards drive the price of 8 GB cards under $100 :)

Quote
SanDisk expects to ship the cards by the end of the year for $779.99 and $1,049.99 respectively.

so, almost $800 for a 12 gig card, and over a grand for a 16 gig card.  how long do you think until these reach the $300 range??  6 months?  another year?  longer??

These prices are msrp they list the 4gb at 260 and 560 for the 8gb. We will have to wait and see what the street price will be.

good point.  but, when these first hit the market, I bet the street price will be pretty close to the msrp.  and then the street prices will drop, particularly when other manufacturers start selling 12 or 16 gig cards...

I can say without question that a 8gig card does work in a P2.  I run a ultra 2 8gig card.  I have had 0 issues.....

me too.

i was asking about cards greater than 8 gigs in size...

the transcend 120x 8gig works fine for me at 24/48. it tests OK for all resolutioins on the p2 (through 24/192), i just havent run it at those higher resolutions, yet...

With cards getting so big so fast, what's next?  32 or 48 bit sampling?

its possible there will be a 414>acm671 and 414>acmhp2 comp at panic in nashville.

i thought you were letting someone else run the shempz. anyways, a comp is more interesting than 17 fob shempz tapes.

Some Samsung 16GB CF cards have been showing up on ebay for around $380 each, and 8GB SD cads for $180-200.  I think these will be widely available within a few months.

I'm using a 4GB card in my PMD660 (spec'd up to 2GB) and it works fine.  I formatted it on an external computer with FAT32, IIRC.

i've got some pisser comp cables I made for situations like this.
anyone want to borrow or buy them?  I made them for a fellow member, but he flaked on me.

they are a 4' hydra w/female on one end and 4xmale XLR on the other so you can run the same mics into two different rigs.
