Title: 7.2v/4500mah NIMH DVD battery cable question....
Post by: F.O.Bean on May 14, 2011, 11:16:24 PM
OK folks, I bought a 7.2v/4500mah NIMH DVD battery, and all it came w/ was the AC Adapter/wall wart. I stopped at Radio Shack tonight and bought an "M" Adaptaplug, and the appropriate cable for the adaptaplug, so I can solder an RC connector on the other end. I'm just in need of assistance. Do I want the tip to be positive

I DO have a multi-meter so just let me know what I have to do, so I can start using this battery :)

Thank you VERY MUCH in advance for any help you can give me ;)

  • or negative[-] ??? And how should I go about building it? Just see if the ac adapter has the tip
  • [-], and then do the same to the output cable ???

You can use your multimeter to find out if the output tip is +.
Is the MM digital?
If you test the output tip (of the battery) with the red lead of the MM, and the tip is -, then the MM will read -7.2 instead of 7.2
Does that make sense?

Also, you have to know if the gear you're going to power is tip+.  Much gear is, but not all.

I am pretty sure you want positive unless you plan on using a UA5 or r4/r44 w/ the battery pack.
