TSKB: Digital camera recommendations
« on: February 12, 2009, 10:22:39 AM »
Looking around for a new digital camera.  I'm cheap, I'd like to spend as little as possible ($100-ish) on something that has a very small footprint so that I can put it in my pocket.  I'd also like to be able to take very critical closeups to photograph my glass.  Doesn't have to be the latest and greatest.....Anyone got an old one in good condition they'd like to sell?

Go find some pictures in the Rig Pics thread by spyder9 (Dan). I forget what model he has, but he's gotten the best pics from a P&S camera I've seen.
Pockets full of nickels and nothing left to eat, and I'm stuck behind a semi on Soniat Street.

Can you elaborate on this???
You're not getting the P&S to use as a concert camera?

Some Canon models are great value for money, because they can run a hacked firmware called CHDK. This unlocks a lot of features, like RAW capture, better video specs, shutter times, ISO values etc.

The best value for money is Canon A570, which can be found for $120, but it might be too big for your pocket.
In the pocketable range, the Canon SD1000 fits your price tag, starting from $90 refurbed...
Mics: A-51s LE, CK 930, Line Audo CM3, AT853Rx (hc,c,sc),  ECM 121, ECM 909A
Pres: Tinybox, CA-9100, UA5 wmod
Recorders: M10, H116 (CF mod), H340, NJB3
Gearbag: High Sierra Corkscrew
MD transfers: MZ-RH1. Tape transfers: Nak DR-1
Photo rig: Nikon D70, 18-70mm/3.5-4.5, SB-800

I'd like an all around camera...concerts would be one thing.  But what I really need it for is to put photographs of my glass, typically very small and very detailed, online.  I don't want it to be super expensive, because I'd like to take it pretty much everywhere and not have to worry to much about it being lost or broken.  I'll definitely check out the two models you've mentioned.

Thanks for getting back!
