may be easier to turn the kind cable  into right angle.  not sure though.

I am actually getting ready to do the same exact thing.  My plan was to just use the v3 connecter and ditch the cable for the radio shack one.

Female-to-Female Adaptaplug Socket Cable & Plug letter "B" for the battery  http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049698  Cut the cable to your desired length (now you have two cables).  If i remember correctly the white striped cable is the positive.  On the V3 side the small prong is positive http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,97621.msg1571826.html#msg1571826

Go through the junk box of old wallwarts you have... find one that fits the DVD player battery and cut it off.  Or buy the "B" plug at Radshack.

Basically, it's a "straight through cable"... inside of battery plug to inside of V3 plug, and outside to outside.  Use an Ohm meter to make you have it right before you plug it in.
