If I record 24 bit files in the field, open them in Sound Forge Pro 10 and do processing like peak level normalization, is the processing automatically done in 32 bit floating?

Isn't it preferable for the processing to be done in 32 bit floating rather than 24 bit? If Sound Forge isn't doing it automatically, how do I set it to do so in the future?

My ignorance encompasses the entire universe except for a few tiny slivers.  This is one sliver I'm still not clear on.  Thanks in advance for your responses.
