Absolute best nimh AA for marantz 661?
« on: May 20, 2015, 06:58:13 PM »
Ok, so after a lot of shopping I've decided to stay small and pickup another wmod 661 from Doug. I'm currently using four 1.2v 2300 mah energizers, and get about three hours mic in phantom on with 4022s. Line in is never an issue, well over five hours.

I just don't want to eff with outboard power, and I will pretty much only run mic in when lo pro. So I don't want to be sweating battery life. Anything with more runtime out there? I have a powerex c9000 wizard one charger.

Thanks!

I use the Duracell Ion Core AAs with my FP24 and they are outstanding.  They were about $14 for a 4-pack and charger at my local grocery store.  IIRC, I got 6 hours + on the FP24 powering my CM3s.  I bought them after reading several discussions / reviews that they are re-branded Sanyo Eneloop XX's.

I have the Eneloops, bought them on Amazon with the Eneloop branded charger which if I remember correctly is a smart charger, I've been extremely happy with them & get about 6 hours with the FP24.
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

I also used Eneloops however I'm using a small USB battery now that gives me almost 6 hours. I had no problem with P48 with my mics up to about 1 1/2 hours with the Eneloops. I worried if it went to a two hour set. I now use the Eneloops in my MixPre-D and have tested them and got about 2 1/2 hours a set.

I just tested 8 of these AA's in my Tascam HD-P2. Initial voltage of a freshly charged set was 10.91. I turned Phantom on (powering Naiant X-Os), and forced the background screen to stay on the whole time, with input gain set to 5. They lasted FIVE hours and 49 minutes. I'm impressed, that's way longer than I expected them to last. The average voltage of the "spent" batteries was still about 1.2v.
Also, they are on sale here in Eastern PA at Giant supermarkets: $9.99 for a 4 - pack.
