Portable 48 volt phantom power
« on: January 15, 2016, 04:15:05 AM »
Does anyone know which phantom Power 48 volt I need to drive my Bruel & Kjær 4037 ?
It would be nice if the phantom Power is small :)

What will you be using as a recorder?  Some have on-board P48, and, if yours doesn't, you still need to take the recorder's inputs into account.  I have no personal experience, but the Denecke PS-2 seems to be a popular choice.  It has XLR outputs, but there is a 3.5 mm mod.  You should also consider some of the small pre-amps, such as the Aerco MP-2, a little or tinybox (if you can find one), or something similar...

I second the Aerco. There's also the Audioroot Femto that looks small. The Denecke PS-2 is cheaper, but I think the battery life is shorter. I think you have to plug in an external battery pack for extended recording.

Going bigger, there are the Sound Devices products, such as the MixPre-D or 302. You could also hunt around for the older MixPre, MP2 or the Shure FP24 (essentially a rebranded SD product). They have more options for and better metering than the Aerco.

You might consider our 2Phant.

http://core-sound.com/2Phant/1.php

Two channels. Up to 10 mA per channel.

Two 9V batteries allow hot-swapping - no shutdown required to swap batteries.

Very efficient - lasts a really long time before batteries go dead.

Len, is the output on the 2phant balanced or unbalanced?
