CA-14 omnis 3.5mm > mini XLR adapter or cable?
« on: August 09, 2017, 05:52:53 PM »
hey guys I have a pair of CA-14 cards I run into a 9200 via XLR. I wanted to buy a pair of CA-14 omni's from a fellow taperssection member but his have 3.5 mm jacks and my CA-14's have XLR (see here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hm23an2er3smxpi/20170806_193859.jpg?dl=0 ) -

if I buy his omni's, how would I run those into my 9200? can I buy an adapter or a cable to resolve this or would I need to have his omnis re-terminated to XLR?

This sounds completely backwards to me.  I've never seen or heard of a 9200 with xlr.  Typically all Church Audio mics and preamps I've seen or heard of have 3.5mm mini plugs.  I'd love to see a pic of this 9200.

That being said, I assume you can get a single 3.5mm mini > xlr adapter cable.

I've never heard of CA's terminating to an XLR, only to mini's...sounds to me like something was customized.  I would avoid extra cables.  Is it safe to say you'll be using these for stealth shows?  If so, I'd refit them with minis and keep it simple and with less metal.  But that's just me.
Normal: Nakamichi CM-700's >> SD 744T (or) Sony PCM-M10
Normal: Crown CM-700's >> SD 302 >> SD 744T
Fun times: 3 Crown CM-700's >> SD 302 >> SD744T + 2 Nakamichi CM-700's >> SD744T
Stealth: CA-14c >> CA 9200 >> Edirol R-09HR
Ultra stealth: AudioReality >> AudioReality battery box >> Edirol R-09HR
Simple & Sweet!

Did you buy the XLR-ed mics and 9200 directly from Chris Church?

You have a 9200 that is mini xlr? I made a few of them hit me up I can make you an adapter. I can also reterminate the mics for $30 plus return shipping. Might actually be cheaper than an adapter.

I was buying the pair for $100, after having them reterminated or buying the adapter, I might as well buy them new from you, Chris. Thanks for the info.

I did opt for the XLR connections when I bought my gear, so CC built them that way. I prefer the security knowing the plug wont come accidentally unhinged.
