I've got a line on a cheap pair of the MBHO's already. I just don't have a good pre-amp. I use the Denecke PS-2 and a homebrew pre-amp with my Octava's now.

I ran MBHO > PS2 > line transformer > (modSBM-1 added later) > D100 for a while and really liked the results.  Go for it!

What are the other options with the MBHO mics?
The V2?
W-Mod UA-5?
I would imagine the DMIC-20 is a little to brittle sounding for those mics.
I'm considering moving to the MBHO's from my Okatva MC012's.

I have not heard this combination myself, but I will bet that the MBHOs sound good going MP-2 > modSBM.  That is a dark pre/ad combination and would bring out the bass quite nicely in the MBHOs which I find lacking in most situations.  Also makes the perfect stealth setup if that is your bag.

now, its my ears, but I started with the mp-2,modsbm-1 with the MBHO's, didn't care for it, I liked the V2/modsbm-1 combo better, but I also love the grace  sound.

i use 603/Ka 200 with a V2> ad-500> m1 and I think they complement the mbho's well..  bright but not harsh, bassy but but not bloated.IMO.

Here's a very nice recording done with 603/ka200s>mp2>(mod)SBM1:

In fact it was while I was doing the DAT transfer on this show I decided to run this combo myself...it really does sound that good.
