2ch setup
« on: October 24, 2006, 09:37:19 PM »
Thought I would post a few pictures of my current 2 channel setup.

Cary Audio Design CAD-211 Anniversary Edition mono-blocks - Cary Audio Design SLP-05 fully balanced preamp - Cary Audio Design Silver Oak I Reference 2-way loudspeaker

The transport in this photo is just my old Sony DVP-S9000ES. It was my reference player for quite a while as I got to know it's sound quite well.

The pictures don't really do the finish that much justice. The chasis of both mono-blocks and the pre are anthracite black which is a color from the Jaguar line of autos. They look great in person.

:hmmm:

In my 2-channel listening room, I run a pair of McIntosh XRT-29's which are currently being tri-amped. With speakers that hungry they have really bloomed since tri-amping them. The only downside is the cost of running 3 different sets of speaker wires. That in itself damn near broke me! Good luck with the new setup.

how are you triamping those beasts?  6 monoblocks?

Believe it or not, I have a set of the tri-chassis MC2KW mono-blocks on extended loan from the manufacturer.

You've got to be kidding right? The mac was simply on loan from the manufacturer. I orginally stated that fact. It has now gone back.

Stunning, talk about high WAF! I have always wanted to hear Carey tube gear, someday maybe I'll give it a shot for giggles. Tubes aren't that much worse then any other high current drawing class A amp.

Dude.. pull those speakers out from that corner! It kills me when I see (in my customer's homes and on Audiogon, etc.) these great high end systems with speakersstuffed into a  corner and 6" from the walls. All those reflections will crush your imaging. Yea I know there is the "wife factor" but still if she let you spend 30K on a system she should at least let you set it up to make the most of it! Then again... I'm not married ;D

I agree, most of the time when I see a pic of a system on Agon, the speakers are jammed against the wall for WAF. Like driving a vette on four donuts IMO 8)

EDIT: If those speakers are ported it looks like they would be rear ported, definitely don't want a rear ported speaker that close to the wall.

Come on, give me a little bit of credit here.  ;)

It's not the wife factor. This photo was taken just after I reassembled my personal 2 ch setup and sent back some McIntosh loaner gear. I hadn't put everything back in place just yet when this particular picture was taken but the Silveroaks are a good 4' from the wall at this point and that is all I can spare.

I am sales/product develpment/tech support at Cary Audio Design so luckily I didn't pay $30K for anything! ;)

By the way, I've got to clear some space out of our warehouse and need to get rid of some prototype designs, some Silver Oak speakers and some demo gear. Anyone looking for anything at the moment?
