Time Issues in Transferring
« on: October 13, 2003, 05:17:03 PM »
OK, got my D8 and borrowed (THANKS, BRIAN!) Oade active 7 pin, a Radio Shack coax cable, and my CDR-775.
When I started the sync record on my CDR-775, the CD counter began running about 12-13 seconds behind the D8's. Now, after 13 minutes of transferring, it's up to 16 seconds. The difference has been increasing until now and I expect it to continue.
Tape was recorded at 44.1... what the hell is wrong with me?

i had this happen before to me, not really sure what it is, maybe they are just running at different speeds, your guess is as good as mine, the tapes turned out fine though, anyone else?

Yeah, I have my D8 plugged into the wall, too... I have no idea!
Now the D8 is 4 seconds fast...

I have the same issues but the transfers always seem to be fine so I ignore it and just chalk it up to inaccurate clocks.

The one thing that does bother me is when downsampling from 48 to 44.1 in SF, the WAV will become shorter.  Weird.

I guess I'll just not worry about it. :)

Yeah, if it sounds fine I wouldn't sweat it, Armen - they're just counters, anyway.

Yeah, I hope that's all they are. Back, forth, up, down...

With a tape in, press the Counter button.  It'll cycle through a time counter (no indicator onscreen), A-Time, and Remaining time.  Counter is just...a counter.  A-Time is Absolute-Time, 0:00:00 being the start of the tape.  Remaining time is, well...remaining time on the DAT.  Note:  A-Time/Remaining doesn't always work correctly on 90m DATS, IME.

Oh, then yes, of course, it's tickin' like it should. A-time. 60m tape.
