I've got a couple of 12V 4000mah NiMH batteries that are for laptops.   Here is the link to them on batteryspace:
http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=816

The only problem is you probably gotta hack off that sorry connector since it doesn't allow you to switch between positive and negative tip like if you wanted to run a UA-5.

I've yet to rip the crappy plugs off mine yet since I am still using one of them to power my homemade Led VU meter since one of the included plugs worked already so I was lazy ;p   But I want to slap something else on there soon for JB3 usage in a pinch or long festival.

im using those 12v 4000mah batts from battery space to power my firewire 410 and they are absolutely sweet

i took one and hacked it to try using it for external power for my lappy, very simple and worked. would be no problem hacking them and adding another tip.

i plan to keep the packs and power my FR2 with these as well

It's an FR-2 that I want to power as well.
I'm guessing at 1 amp with the PC hardrive, so battery w/ 4000 mAH should go 4 hours, plus the 2 hrs from the internal pack.

this is what ive been using wit my toshiba satellite, its 19 volts ac, so its a power hog
, i get around 2-2.5hrs off it, plus 1.75 hrs on the internal, and i bought two of them.
ill never have to worry about powering the lappy for awhile.

il have to dig up the current draw on the fr2, its not 1A all the time, maybe on startup but it doesnt draw that much all the time i dont believe

he didnt sayt he exact draw while runnin, but he has been running the fr2 longer than any of us, so he probably knows a little about runtime

That battery (12v 4aHr) ahould power the FR2 number wise for about 8 hrs.  The light on the front panel
will drain some juice if left on, and the headphone out will drain power when on.  It also uses more power
to do higher resolution.  All this into account I bet it will power it for a good 6 hrs+.  Not bad.
