Not looking to compete with Darktrain, Kind, Hydra etc. whose work I totally respect. I just like rolling my own and would like to try silver vs. copper for myself. I've been a happy Canare star quad user til now.

How many varieties of silver cable are around (I mean cable raw footage, not finished cables :) )? Is there a general consensus on which is/are best? What's up with "Mil-spec"? Where can I get small quantities? Thanks!

Peace,
Sanaka

"Mil Spec" means that it meets certification to be used in US Military applications. There is no champion since they are all made to the same spec. You might find the teflon coating is a little more "plastic-y" on some but other than that all the same.
It is made by lots of different manufacturers like this wire from Judd

that's about the going rate for a short length now, used to be cheaper a few years ago.

I bought 800 feet of 29 foot lengths from this seller quite a while ago. Worked out perfect for making 15 foot pairs. 18 to 24 AWG is good for mic cables, the higher the gauge the stiffer the wire. 18 AWG will jump out of your bag like a slinky till it gets worn in.

I use 20 or 22 (I like 22 best) depending on what I can buy by the partial spool.

Thanks GC  :)

From somewhere (almost for sure here at TS, but I can't remember where) my memory burped up 'Apex Elecctronics' as a source for Teflon/silver mic wire. They have this that seems likely:

http://www.apexelectronic.com/wire.htm     (scroll down to 'Teflon')

2 Conductor Shielded, 22 AWG, Strand 19/34, Nom Insul Thk 0.12

Is this good stuff?

Sanaka
