Anything that sounds decent and will not overload at loud shows, without a battery box?

People speak well of the Tascam DR-100mkII

Also there is the Sonosax miniR82

^ Ha, I like that list.  Really hitting both ends of the spectrum.

Define "handheld."  I presume this is for stealth recording?

The Roland R-26 is supposed to sound pretty good.  About the same size as the Tascam mentioned above.  A bit of a battery hog, so might not great for stealth recording.

Two Zoom recorders: the H4n and the H6.  Not sure how much love they have here.  Apparently the H6 sounds fine.

Marantz 661 MKII (or the original 661).  Can be modded by Oade.  Definitely one people like around here.

All technically handheld but still a bit cumbersome if it's something you're trying to not make noticed.

Thanks all. Yeah, stealth. Already have an Oade wmod,661 and love it. Don't need to really get smaller than that, no patdowns to worry about. Think the 661 will do the job. That sax is disturbingly expensive.....Jesus.

I like my DR-100mkII. I have run my Neumann KM-140s off the phantom and it sounds OK. Not quite as good as with my Beyer MV-100 (which isn't the best preamp anyway) but it works and is a small package to  >:D with. :)
