MicMe mic/recorder on Indiegogo
« on: June 22, 2015, 12:54:19 PM »
MicMe is a portable mic with built in recorder.  Its advantage is that the mic capsule is larger than mics in typical recorders. (It's monaural.) The recorder section can digitize up to 24/96.  After recording (maybe during recording?), the file can be sent via Bluetooth to a phone running MicMe software for simple editing.

MicMe is a project of a fellow from Vienna.  The Indiegogo goal of $25K was achieved in 10 hours.  At this writing, you can still subscribe at $169.

The MicMe seems to use some sort of automatic level control.  No manual setting is apparent in the Indiegogo presentation.  The MicMe has 8GB of built in flash memory.

Here's another Indiegogo microphone/recorder project that caught my attention...
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/instamic-the-smart-small-gopro-of-microphones#/story

The Pro version of Instamic will record stereo 24-bit/48kHz uncompressed wav.  Up to 4 hours recording on a single charge.  Pairs with iOS/Android so you can stop/start/pause recording, adjust recording levels, all from your smartphone.  Internal flash memory is 2GB, so it'll only hold 2 hours of 24 bit audio.  I messaged the project creator about the 2 hour limit.  He replied back saying the Instamic specs will be bumped, so it will be capable of recording more than 2 hours at 24 bit.  If this project pans out, it might be a decent option for stealth recording.  With bigger venues now employing enhanced security like walk-through metal detectors, it's becoming more of a challenge to stealth.  I like that it's small enough to mount to a hat, with no wires to deal with.  It'll have different mounting options like tape, Velcro, magnet.  Won't be out til Q1 2016 though, if it ships on time.  Or ships at all.  You never know with these crowdfunding campaigns.

- if all else fails.  The concept of stereo omni mics even closer than on the M10 is a bit daft, and the noise figure quoted would probably be ok for loud rock, but that's about all.
