What do I need for my SMKH8K>UA5>JB3? (Thanks for the help!)
« on: October 11, 2004, 11:36:47 AM »
I have ordered Superlux SMKH8K mics, a digi-mod UA5, and a refab JB3.

Now I know I need cables and connectors to make everything work, but since I don't have all of this in hand yet I don't know what I need.  I wanted to get a jump start on buying cables so I can get everything working as soon as possible.

A newbie needs help connecting this equipment by Friday!

2 XLR cables, and an optical cable with a mini end on one side. Are you all set on power?

I am not all set on power.  The JB3 I am getting has no internal batteries and I want to use a 9.6v RC battery to power the JB3 and UA5.  Is that possible?  What would the battery life be estimated?  I am reading through all of the external power JB3 stuff right now, but I don't know enough about this stuff to know how to make a setup for both the JB3 and UA5.  Are there any pictures of a setup like this anywhere I am missing?

if you buy some batts for the jb3 on ebay and have them overnighted, you'd be good to go for fri, $$

What about the comment at the top of this page?

How easily is this done.  I think I want to go this route first and get internal batteries later.

i think you'd be better off getting the internals now and making the external battery later when you have time to mess around with it.

the 9.6v for the ua-5 is easy as pie, just follow the instructions on that one website with the step by step.

i'd suggest making your own canare xlr cables if you're good at soldering.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

Is this the adaptor I need to put on a normal optical cable for the UA5>JB3?
