Topic: Powering 722 with AC to DC power supply

Would it work with the 722 if I changed the connector with a 4 pin connector?

Sound Devices sells the power supply for over $70 so I was planning to save some money and make one myself.

I agree that the SD supply is expensive and probably overpriced. But no way would I chance making one. A $70 supply is nothing compared to replacing a $2200 recorder if the supply shorts and fries it. What happened to the one that came with it? If it broke, they'd probably fix it for less than a new one or replace it for free.

the 722 power supply is rated @ 2.5 amps

Yes, my one doesn't work suddenly. Don't know why. My one is actually rated 0.8A.

So I guess everyone's AC supply has different Amp rating?

Depends on when you purchased it. They recently changed the AC plug adapter. I have the old school kind with inverter thingy on the plug itself (also .8A). The newer ones are like laptop power cords with the inverter thingy in the middle of the cable. If you are still under warranty (1yr), they will send you a new one. Out of warranty, you are coughing up $80 fuckin' dollars for a new one.

Changing the end on a PS is pretty easy. if you have a DMM testing up font is easy as well before plugging in... So as long as the voltage rating is correct on the supply and the current draw specs are on or over on the ps you are a go with a DIY solution. If oyu need the connector look here...

I am 99% positive this is the one... Call b&H for the confermation as they onlu lost it for the mixers but I am confident it is the same one for the 7series recorders
