does 24 bit or higher sample rates use more power?
« on: December 21, 2007, 02:36:24 PM »
lets say you get 5 hrs at 16/44.1
would you get less at 24/44.1
and less at 24/48
even less at 24/96
???
trying to figure out, based on peoples run times posted and what i would run at most of the time, if i can go by the times posted or if they are not "accurate" to me
thanks

It should, because you're writing more information to the hard drive/flash card. Not sure how much more battery time you'd get running 16bit vs. 24bit, but you could easily test that yourself.

ok so 24 will drain more then 16 but would 96 over 48?
i can't test it because i don't have the battery :/
trying to see how big of a battery i might need before buying it and finding out its overkill or wishing i got a bigger one
thanks again

Yes, higher sample rates will also result in more data being written to the hard drive/flash card. But, I'm not sure if it will make much of a difference in battery life.

Compact Flash I/O is very low power... I would be shocked if there was an appreciable difference in battery life between 16+24 or 48+96...

Right. If there were much of a difference, you'd see it with a hard drive long before you'd see it with flash media.
