« on: January 25, 2006, 04:33:47 PM »
I thought I read somewhere that Nick was looking into making a nbox for gefells.... Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!

EDIT: Anyone have Nick's e-mail?

It is Nick of Nbox fame.  Here's his info:

somewhere deep in a thread about power options for the schoeps nbox, Nick confirmed that he is working on it.  I then posted this in the "Team Gefell" thread, as I thought people would be interested.  That also sparked a lot of conversation.

I also heard through the grape vine that a MG nbox is in the works.  The collettes have been machined and now some other research needs to be done on developing an 'active' setup for it.

I know this thread is primarily about powering the nbox, but is this true.  I think many of us MG folks would be interested in an active setup to use with the MG caps.

Yes, this is true...Met a local taper at a bc show, got together with him and a friend of his who is a machineist and we currently have an "active head" for the mg caps to screw onto.....looking good.  Simply have to work out circuit details as the mg caps differ from the schoeps.

I hope he gets onto an AKG box.  His customer base would be very large for an Nbox supporting AKG caps, tons of us are looking for a solution.
CK1x, CK2x, CK3x > Hub Industry Cables > Naiant PFA or MK46 > 460B
CK1, CK8, CK63 > 460b

kind of a moot point considering all the akg users who would sell their mics and buy mg's once the gefell nbox is a reality.  ;)
Now that is funny.

my understanding from Jon @ JK labs (long before he disappeared) is that the box's innards are indentical and the only thing that needs to be developed is the head onto which the capsule mounts.  Jon indicated to me that the same jklabs box could be used to run gefel/akg/schoeps/neumann caps via their respective active cables.

All you suckas just want SPITTY recordings now :P ;D

I actually mentioned this in that nbox power thread and schoepsnbox confirmed it.  I know that geffel  collettes have been machined out of brass and they are actually quite nice, I was impressed.  The issue now is the cabling.  schoepsnbox needs to borrow one of these boxes to understand how they work better.  He is holding out for one of the akg/mg jklabs  boxes....someone should send him one so he can 'inspect' it

"The Duke" loves SPITTINESS :-* but he may never actually get it.

<<<< chuckles reverberating from DPA mountain >>>>

I heard its quite boomy over there on DPA mountain.  Are they blasting the powder to create slides? ;)

The Duke ALWAYS dominates...has nothing to do with the fact that schoeps are better mics >:D

If I would've run my DPA rig at the hip hop show I taped tonight it would be nowhere near as pretty as the MG tape is...but the DPAs are oh so easy to stealth!  Once this MG Nbox hits the market though...

Can someone clarify wtf "spitty" is supposed to mean in audio terms?
Really not very evil at all now...

Old thread I know.
Did this ever develop farther? I'd love to know more.

Thanks.
