24/48
« on: July 06, 2003, 01:17:56 AM »
Ok, I finally got around the last few days to setting up the mme>Laptop and was totally geeked to have it working at 24/48 flawlessly. I messing around with my son Ben and taped a nice long sing along session. To make a CD I saved as 16/44.1 in wavelab. Is it really as easy as just saving the file at 16/44.1 to downsample the file? It sounds killer but I just want to make sure I am doing it right. I'll be doing Meadowbrook & Cleveland Panic shows this next week and now the 24/48 is working good. I want to run both shows (as well as the upcomming Phish shows).
ANy confiramtions or help is greatly appreciated. The whole rig is mg200>mme>2.4 ghz P4, 512 DDR,win2000,wavelab for those who want more specifics.

So convert sample rate, then save as to dither to 16 bit? I thought i read it that way in the help file.

always be sure to actually convert the sample rate, i learned the hard way that if you just try to save a 48 or 96kHz file as 44.1kHz it will let you do it it will just sound like its in slow motion.. its not as noticable going from 48>44 than as going from 96>44.

In Wavelab follow these simple steps:
1.Do any normalization, gain change, fade ins/outs, or any other editing while still in 24/48.
2.Convert sample rate 48>44  (don't save yet)
3.Dither:  UV22HR and hit render (now save it, no need to save twice.)

Ok, I'm still a bit fuzzy about the dithering process. The dither should change the file to 16 bit right? What am I missing for it to go through the process. I choose the UV22HR and select render. It does somthing but when all done the file is still 24/44.1. Is it then when I save as that it assignes 16 bit? I did that on a copy and it works and sounds great. But I agaian feel I am missing something. The instructions given seem so simple I think I'm missing something. Any help is greatly appreciated. Our recording is the only rig to get the full show And there were on,y 3 tapers there. This is wsp 7/9/03 and it is HOT. SO I want to get it out there pretty quick.

you are using wavelab 4.0 right?
If so,
1.Hit render and this should bring up a save as dialog box
2.Select where you want to save the 16 bit file.
3. In the box below the save as box select Wav 16 bit
4.Make sure you are saving it as a .wav file and not a mp3 or mpeg
