Scored a Sonosax, question inside
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:11:32 PM »
Hi, scored a mint Sx-M2 from the motherland of Switzerland. Some lady had it, looks like she never used it. Just got it in the mail today. Anyway, what plug are you using to power it with the tekkeon? I dont think any of these fit.  I did find a link someone posted about this one..is this the one? that i have to buy from Tekkeon?  or can someone make me one? Any insights you can throw at me about this pre would be great..thanks

For a tekkeon, I asked them a while ago and they said the Panasonic Toughbook plug (it's a longer C tip IIRC) and it fits without modification and I never had mine fall out when I used it (it did have some resistance, it wasn't like it just sat there). A wicked snug fit requires you shave about 2-3mm of black plastic off of the B tip since the barrell is long enough to make contact but not long enough to snap in and stay in on it's own as the plastic prevents it from going deeper. A number of folks don't modify the tip and rubber band it to keep it in but mine wanted to short out periodically when I tried that.

edit:
Only recommendation is on powering, feed it as many volts as possible without exceeding 24v. Your headroom is based on the input voltage (for better or worse).

FYI, i contacted Tekkeon about that Toughbook adapter, it was out of stock and it looks like they cant get anymore. BUT he said the adapter that comes with the tekkeons labeled "C" is the same barrel as the toughbook one. Its also right angle. So all i had to do was shave back a little bit of the plastic sleeve and it worked fine. thanks for your help. Also, the little red ON light flashes is that because the battery is obviously low? it actually flashed with two nine volts as well.

yeah, when it flashes it's registering low voltage (at like 14v or something like that). It has a wicked tiny draw of like 80ma, but it has a large voltage appetite.

The red light blinks about once a second in normal operating state. It will start a fast blink when the 9 volts are getting ready to die.

I can't answer for the phantom power off but with it on I always trusted it for 5- 5 1/2 hours.

I get around 10-12 hours running my Lemosax with cheap alkalines. And the Rat Shack tip "M" fits snugly in my Sax ;)
