Tripod for Sony PCMD50?
« on: October 08, 2008, 12:02:35 PM »
I am wondering if any of you have purchased a tripod for the Sony PCMD50.  Is it a normal sized connection, or is it some proprietary 2^5 / 32" stud or some nonsense like that.  I see that the official Sony tripod costs around $50, which is insane.  I can buy one at the photo shop for like $10 or even cheaper.  Would it work?  Any specific tripods that all of you would recommend?

I have a cheap one I bought at Best Buy years ago and it fits the D50 just fine. So yeah, it's the same size as any camera based tripod that's out there.

I bought a Gorillapod for mine, no special adapter needed.

The Sony PCM-D50 uses the 1/4-20 threads that are found on the
typical cheap camera tripod.  This is a smaller size than used on
mic stands.

For small recorders, I use a tripod I found at Sears for $4, and a
Gorillapod knockoff I purchased from eBay for $9.  The Gorillapod
style desktop tripod can be used as a handle when there's no table
around.

Check reply #261 for pictures of my PCM-D50 and the gorillapod in action.  I think the gorillapod is a must have for the PCM-D50.
