And right after saying they were on schedule two days before release...  :P

ps. 2.0.7 is currently rockin' away - that split by markers is an incredible time-saver!  ;D

Well, it's out.  I just download it.

I've been having some problems with Spark ME putting some digi noise on my recordings (at least, I think I've narrowed it down to Spark).  I may try Sound Studio to record a show tonight...

Well I recorded the opener of the show last night with Sound Studio.  It actually came out great.  I never had a good experience recording with it before....  It sucks that it gives you no feedback while it's recording, i.e. no levels on screen.  It actually does nothing until you hit stop, then it builds the wave form...  I dunno if I can use it full time.  Hopefully I can get Spark working correctly again...

I used an emi 2|6 > iBook 700.  I think I was still using OS 10.2.4 at that show, but I'm on 10.2.5 now...

I did get Spark working again (just deleted everything related to the program and installed a fresh copy) so I've only done the one show with SS...

and it worked ok with the emi and sound studio 2.1?  i can't get core audio working with the emi, only HAL (which iw why 2.0.7 worked fine, it didn't use core audio)

i'll test the new sound studio with the emi on my powerbook, but the emi doesn't work with peak or spark using core audio...

i'm transferring right now using emi 2|6/ 10.2.4/ and Sound Studio 2.1.  works fine.  also nice that SS added the input levels in 2.1.  quite an improvement over flying blind.  showing the waveform would be better, but this is good for now.   ;)

Maybe I'm crazy, but don't you just have to do Window>Show Input Levels on 2.0.7? ??? That's what I use to make sure I have a signal coming into my computer because the U2A kills my Sound Out...

--Dave

ps. The OS X 10.2.5 update just came out and its description said that the improvements/fixes included audio, but the KBase article didn't have any details. If you're having core audio problems with the EMI, try upgrading to 10.2.5, maybe?

everyone i know who tried the emi 2|6 with core audio (spark, peak) in 10.2.4 or earlier had issues when feeding a spdif signal.  analog signal was fine. digi in was fine with HAL (what sound studio 2.0 used)

10.2.5 gives me the same issues in peak and spark (pops/clicks t 16/44.1 in spark, duplicated/dropped samples at 24 bit in peak).  i'll try sound studio tomorrow

maybe sound studio still uses HAL sometimes?  i'll check what's going on on the inside...

HAL is not listed in the dropdown menu anymore under 10.2.4/ SS 2.1.  at least not on my machine.  looks to be using Core audio all the way.  ;)

what sucks is SS 2.1 still does not support 24 bit.     :-\

on the other hand, Resample is significantly improved speed wise!  ;)

I was about to chime in and say that I've hardly had any problems with the emi 2|6 and core audio.  But I've been using the analog in only, not digi in...

So Scott, what do you use to record, then?  You've got a 12" Powerbook, right?  So OS X only?  Is there something better than Spark?

I'd like to get my hands on DP4...  ;D

with the emi, my only option is 16 bit right now.  spark 2.7 works fine for 24 bit with the minime, but running v3 > emi i'm stuck with 16 bit right now.  i wish they'd fix whatever is wrong....i want 24 bit v3 action!   8)

Ah, so maybe that's what it was.  I had a problem with a set I did a few weeks ago when I tried out 24 bit...there was digi noise all over the recording, and I couldn't figure out why...

Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon, I'd like to go to taping at 24 bit regularly (and I'm not lucky enough to have a MiniMe at my disposal).  :)

diginoise wasn't my problem.

for some reason, spark will *not* recognize an input from the emi 2|6 if you change the settings in spark from "16 bit" to "Best Format".  no idea why

in Peak, it'll see even a 24/96 signal from the emi, but at 16/44.1,16/48,24/44.1, 24/48,24/96 it's full of what seem to be dropped or even duplicated samples.  i'll be listening to something that sounds fine, but all of a sudden they'll be some weird glitch that sounds like  repeated samples in one channel.  this is on the spdif input, not sure what the deal is with analog

in amadeus, i coudln't get a consistent stream coming in without it dropping samples at 24 bit

spark 2.7 at 16 bit has pops/clicks.  i'll test sound studio 2.1 off 16 bit this week and report back

anyone here using the waves master bundle under os x?

btw:

just a lil FYI:

as i said earlier, Resample is dramatically faster.  after transferring the first show via 2.1, i can also report that to my view, the whole program seems MUCH faster in this version.

during this transfer, i opened files/ resampled/ normalized/ split by markers/ and of course, saved, and ALL were significantly faster than 2.0!  nice!  also seems to work well with Core audio.  now if we could just get a 24 bit version!

ahh well... 2.2 anyone?...  ;)

peace

Are any of you guys having trouble with using AppleScript to save in 2.1? Every file that I've done automatically so far has saved as an 8kb file that SS then refuses to open, saying it's in a format that the program doesn't understand.

If I save manually, there's no problem. If I run the script on 2.0.7, again, no problem. I have no idea what this part of the script is for:

select audio doc from 1.21 to 3.48

but whether I leave it in or take it out, it still exhibits the same behavior.
