Need a camcorder to use for taping HR presentations at my company. I plan to have the presenter use a wireless lapel mic.. We will then plug the mic's output into the camcorder. Need to be a simple setup so I can delegate the task. Anybody have any suggestions?
Camcorder requirements:
1. External Mic input.
2. Decent low light performance
3. reasonable price <$500
I will be playing these recorded presentations to night shift personnel on a 200" projection system, so I need decent resolution. By the way, do any HD camcorders allow cropping of the image to 4:3 aspect. Obviously I don't want to do anything in post.

Hard to Hit all your requirements for <$500
Most camcorders create alot of noise via their mic inputs so synch in post is important for good sound, that said a mic>cam is better than just the built in mics.
I have a TM700 thats would fit your requirements, I have been considering selling it but it would probably be a little more than $500
Canon SX40 is a nice digital camera that has a mic input
TM700 does not record in SD 4:3, not sure what cameras do

Can't buy from an individual, it's corporate money.

I understood that from your initial post. I guess my new answer is good luck. I have a ton of experience running video and using mics with cams. Go buy an SX40 and learn for yourself. just cuz you want it to be easy doesnt mean it is possible.
The only option I know of that has a mic input for under $500 is the SX40. I also know that if you plug mics into it directly to record speaking vocals you will get alot of cam generated noise.

Tried several methods and the easiest and best seems to be taking the monitor output from the Bose L1 PA system into the Tascam Dr-2d "line in". I have the presenter using a Countryman e6 head mic . The resulting sound is excellent and free from background noise.

that is a very clean workflow for recording audio.
when you replace the DR2d with a camera you will get lots of audio noise.

Per your suggestion I won't be taking the audio into the camcorder. It looks like it will be easy to teach someone to sync the audio to the video in post. So, I already ordered another Dr-2d for work.

Wise choice and now you can use alot of different cameras to get the video you need.
