Need Power Pack for Nak MX-100
« on: September 17, 2009, 04:19:12 PM »
Not sure if this should go here or in Yard Sale or in pre-amp site. I have a MX-100 that is supposed to be powered by a 10V PS-100, but I need a more portable power pack. I believe it can be powered via 9V but not sure if the MX-100 needs to be modified or not.

Anyone here have one for sale? Or can build me one??

9.6v RC battery or the 9v DVD batts commonly referred to as wallyworld batteries both work. The most difficult thing is finding a plug to go into the MX100. If you have the power cable from the PS100 you could hack it to accept either of the two I mentioned or hack the RC battery connector so it has the same connector as the DVD batt. If you hack the power cable then no mods to the MX100 necessary. If you don't have the cable and are handy with a soldering iron you can tremove the cover of the MX and solder a connector to the appropriate pins, then run the wires outside the case and hook up your battery there. Do a search for the schematic which tells which pin is which. It was reposted here a few weeks ago and also has info on how to wire stanandard 9v transistor batteries to power the MX.

thanks, I have seen the schematic. I do not possess the skills necessary to build me one. I need to find someone who can build me one or modify the MX for a price.

Just for reference,

http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,126271.0.html

When I'm looking at the pin diagram, is it reflective of the pin location from the inside of the case, or the outside?

Sorry for the hijack, the other thread was archived  :-[

If I get mine, you can send me yours and I'll fix ya up for cost of parts  :D

well, it says inside the MX-100, but I know the power pack requires the use of the 4 pin connector cable. Let me know how it goes and I'll gladly pay for the parts so I can use this thing in the field.

if you have the original  power cable that connects the Nakamichi PS-100 to the MX-100..all you need to do is get the
right mini din connector on your new power pack...you do not need to modify the the MX-100. This works for me.

I think the stock DIN plug sucks and is unreliable. Mine would occasionally lose contact or need wiggling.

Hard wire that thing...(I replaced my DINS with screw on CB plugs, but thats a bit of overkill...)
