Studio Projects B3 On-Stage
« on: September 10, 2017, 10:56:37 PM »
Anyone have experience with doing on-stage recording with Studio Projects B3 mics?  Or have thoughts on how they may perform?  I am currently using AKG 481's.  Most of my uses will be 6-10 foot splits on-stage or stage lip.  Thanks for any input.

Back in '05 I was running the C3 multi pattern. Big mics. Apart from the obvious visual clutter you might create on stage with the B3s, which are smaller but still a "bright" looking mic, they should serve you well. I found the C3s to be pretty decent for the price. Perhaps lacking a bit in the bottom tightness area but mids and highs I thought were pretty natural.  Good Luck

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm trying to find something in the sub-$500 range that gives multi-pattern options for on-stage purposes (mixing with sbd typically).  I've been using my AKG 461's spread about 8ft with good results, but wonder if an LD would be better.

Put out an ISO for a pair of ADK TL. You will not be disappointed. Blumlein. split omnis, split cards, the hyper pattern sounds great. Thinking about getting another used pair while they are still around just to have in the closet for the occasional gig since they are discontinued.

Have you considered the Studio Projects CS5?  I posted comparison samples between the CS5 and an AKG 460/ck61 in the CS5 thread.

Im a big fan their sound, but the only way I can get used gear is if it’s a trade. Otherwise, I tend to have to finance my gear and have monthly payments. The sad reality of a poor taper! Seems like people tend to hold onto their TL’s anyway.  Maybe I can set back some cash after the holidays and see if anybody’s looking to get rid of their’s.
