Title: 2000 mAh eneloops AA batt's good for R-44?
Post by: sonidista on October 18, 2010, 10:59:17 AM
Hey there, I've been using Varta Power NiMH 2700 rechargeables and have been satisfied so far. I need new rechargeables though, so I've been looking at the LSD batteries such as Sanyo eneloop. They do have lower capacity (2000 mAh). Are they recommendable for a recorder like the R-44?

any AA battery will work in the recorder but generally you'll want higher mAh. Are you using phantom power mics (what voltage?) or dynamic?
Although it may be more expensive, consider getting a DVD battery and the necessary cable to connect the two.

thanks rastasean. In fact I do use a DVD battery, but for backup I use NiMHs. I was just wondering if the 2000 eneloops would keep the R-44 going for about as long as the Varta 2700s since I read a lot of good stuff about them.

I have heard a lot of nice things about the enveloops but I haven't seen them locally in stores so I'm less inclined to buy them online.
The rechargeable I do own and use are rayovac @ 2500 mAh, but I haven't used them in the R44 yet.

I had great success with 2000 Eneloops, but there is no reason to get them now that Imedion has 2400 LSD batteries for around the same price. There are 2500 Eneloops in the works, but they are not out yet. LSD batteries are the way to go. Besides the obvious advantage of LSD, they seem to be more reliable than regular NiMhs and last longer before they start to lose a substantial amount of their capacity.

Gutbucket has used 2100 Imedions for years and says the Imedions are as good or better than the Eneloops.

here's a 16 pack of them but I don't really need that many.

I'd be willing to sell half of them to one person or two four packs to people if yall are willing to do that.

That's where I bought mine, but it would cost about $50 for 16 with shipping and you'd have to pay to ship 8 to the other person.

Might be easier just to buy 8 for $28.50 shipped here:

Eneloop LSD ---> Here is a set of 8 AA's color coded (4 lt blue 4 blue) with 4 AAA's (2 lt grn 2 grn) with a charger.  The color coding makes it easier to tell which ones you've used.

Any charger that works for NiMh's works with LSD Nihm's so no new charger is needed.

Would still recommend using a good charger that is capable of helping to maintain batteries with any NiMh's that you use like the LaCrosse BC-900. I love mine. Would not want to use a cheap charger after using this one, but whatever you do don't use a charger that has circuitry that deals with batteries in pairs of 2. Those will either undercharge 1 of the 2 or overcharge and possibly damage the other (especially if you are not charging batteries that you bought at the same time and use in the same equipment).
