Ed at KindKables also makes a nice stubby interconnect at a very affordable price.  Really depends on budget and whether you want copper (KK) or silver (Gumbino).

Sorry for the question ... what's a stubby?

basically, it's a straight XLR connector that's been hacked down and made into a right-angle connector.  these are typically much shorter and smaller than the standard Neutrik right-angle XLR connectors.  some good photos here:

All stubbies are is a grinding wheel to shorten the XLR's with JB weld epoxy on the ends.

Very easy to make if you have a grinding wheel.  Then JB weld will set ya back 4 bucks.

best part..
order the neutrik XX series.  You dont need to cut them as the threaded end is on the chock, not the metal housing.
w/those, you only need to drill a hole for the cable to enter (or cut a section out ...either way).
much easier to work with.  and the finished product is a little tighter looking.
they do stick out about 1/4" more than the standard neutrik, but much, much less work.
