Will this power the JB3 right out of the box??
« on: February 19, 2005, 04:49:24 AM »
I've read through a lot of the extrenal battery threads for the JB3 and am a little confused.

One of the products that looked good though was this one: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=318871&sku=D135-1032 and I was wondering if I need anything else to be able to hook it up to my JB3 or could I start using it straight out of the box?

Also curious how much record time I would get with one of those (I know it's more then the internal JB3 batt but by how much)?

Thanks

Looking for another 4061 or even a pair of 406x mics to replace my single.  Please help me stealth in stereo.

Looks like that should work for you 'out of the box'. Just need to make sure it comes with a 'B' adapter plug. good luck.

see this thread below...

I've seen that topic but nobody has actually anwsered the question.  Here's a quote from that topic "It is a 3600 mAh external Li-ion Battery Pack so might be worth a shot..." which leads me to think that the person who suggested it never tried using it.  Anyway I've ordered one and it should be here either today or tommorow and I'll let you know how it goes.

BTW how do I tell if it has a "B" plug or not?

Thanks

First of all the battery comes with 3 different ends.  2 of them seem to fit ok, can't really tell which fits better and the other doesn't fit at all.  Would it really make a difference between the 2 that fit fine?

Secondly I'm not sure if this battery will work with the NJB3 at all.  The box it came in said to charge the battery for 8-12 hours when you get it the first time.  I charged it around 11 hours, then I hooked it up to my Nomad and nothing.

So I have a multimeter sitting around here and I check out the readings off the battery and it's saying 6.81v.  If that's the case then this puppy is way over the limit for the Nomad, but then again I'm not an electronics wizard and maybe I've set the thing to the wrong spot.  Anyone have any suggestions to get this thing to work or have any of you been succesful?  Please help, I'd rather not have wasted my money on this battery since I have nothing else that can use it.

if its outputting 6+ volts, its def not gonna work, but are there voltage settings on the battery ???

if so, select the 4.5v setting

I'll give you a +t for the trouble.  I wonder if they were assuming that a 5v camera would work in a range of voltage around 5?

Nope, there are no settings on this thing at all.

So as far as I can tell there are no out of the box solutions for longer battery life.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong but most of the suggestions put up on this board have all been shot down.  I didn't really want to carry a SLA around but it's looking more and more likely.  Damn I thought I left the world of SLA's when my DA-P1 died  :(

An SLA is waaaay overkill, IMO, unless you need festival power.  Pick up a couple JB3 batts from Creative - and while it'll cost a few bucks - I think you'll find the convenience and light weight are well worth it.  Then, you can put together an SLA or RC or LiON battery solution for strictly festivals.

or get ahold of leegeddy and see if he will make you a custom voltage regulator box, that way you could go rc batts>VR box>jb3 strictly if ya wanted, or wire a bunch of rc batts in parallel and power both your pre/ad and the jb3 off of one battery system :)
