Best mic bar for AT831s?
« on: January 24, 2006, 02:11:12 AM »
I'm looking into getting a mic bar for my AT831s. I'm also hoping it will be useful when I get some DPA 4061s in the near future. I'd imagine they would fit in these as well.

Which one of these do you guys think I should get? They are about the same price but just didn't in design.

OR

Both of these has options between 7.5 inches and 14.5 inches. I'd imagine 7.5 is fine but I'd love the added separation. Is 14.5 way too far?

If anybody has another mic bar that would work better I'd love more options. Any help would be great. Thanks a lot.

If you must order one of those, go for the one with shock-mounts.

Otherwise you can make your own, providing you have clips for the AT831s. Take a plastic ruler (or any scrap piece of thin plastic), drill a hole bang in the middle of it the size of the thread at the top of the stand, secure with threaded adaptor. The ruler will bend slightly when the stand is knocked, and provide enough shock protection. Trust me, thats my setup for open taping..I think I posted pictures a while back in the rig pictures forum.

I'm doing pretty much the same thing as Humbug with the ruler.  I took a yardstick and made it into 2 bars: a 2 foot bar and a 1 foot bar.  Here are some pics: http://horaenterprises.com/pics/mics/

Have you guys had any luck clamping your ruler onto other people's stands or balcony railings? I would need to do both eventually.

Haven't tried clamping to someone else's stand as I don't have a clamp, but I have had people clamp to my stand with no problems.

The ability to clamp would make or break this ruler-bar idea. While I love the idea of saving $40, if it can't be clamped easily to a stand or balcony railing I'm going to have to pay for one of those mic bars.
