24bit digi in bit accurate devices
« on: September 12, 2006, 05:58:23 PM »
I'm thinking of picking up a 671/HDP2/722 to run behind my V3 and was wondering if anyone can confirm if any or all of these recorders has been tested or otherwise confirmed to not resample or mess with the digital input.

John -- really happy with my dell axim x51v, pdaudio card and live2496 software as a 24/96 bitbucket (and I have a pretty nice pda too . . .)

fwiw.

I've tested the HD-P2 against my EgoSys WaveTerminal 2496 soundcard.  both are bit-perfect.
If you're always planning to run the V3 (or any other external A/D), I think the 722 is overboard, and you are best off with the 671 or HD-P2.
I went with the HD-P2 because it is not picky about 8 gig CF cards. (I know there were issues with the 671 and 8 gig cards.  If these issues have been resolved, then this issue is moot.  but I haven't heard positive reports yet.)

I also run an HDP2 behind a minime insted of the V3.  I love this box.  It is easy to use, I haven't found a bug yet.  It has worked flawless with my 8gig ultra 2 card.   8)  I can't say enogh about this box.  I Highly recomend it.  I too spent a lot of time trying to figue which box to get.  But when I began to read the posts of all the boxes out there, the HDP2 was the only one that didn't have some kind of issue.  It worked as stated right out of the box.  Now if someone would just make it the size of a m1 or smaller I would get that one too.....I need a stable stealth deck..... 8)  good luck with your decision.  JK

If you go the 722 route, you have the all-in-one ability if needed (it's stealthable), have an additional AD to try out, and if you have another recorder you can run a 4 source matrix by using the V3 wordclock to the 722 and recording from both devices.

fwiw, the HD-P2 also has a word-clock input.

The m-audio Microtrack 24/96 may also suit your needs and is much cheaper than any of the above units.

Thanks guys. The HDP2 is 12V external power only right? Or will it run off one of those 9V Walmart DVD batteries?

for external power, the HD-P2 is 12V only, so you can't use one of those 9V walmart batteries.  However, you can also power it internally with 8 AA bateries.  many folks have successfully used rechargable AA bateries to record.  personally, I use an external 12V NiMH battery.

to be honest, why not try out an all-in-one box?

get an ACM 671 and keep the v3, or just sell the v3 and get a 722, i think youd actually be quite impressed w/ the 722's pre's, i know i now love them :)

if you get an acm671, you wouldnt necessarily need the v3 anymore.
