i dont have a set range for either.  probably 500ish range for the sub, the smaller the better.  my living room is only 13 x 18, nothing too huge

You might want to take a look at the Pinnacle Babyboomer.  I used it with my maggie mmgs and really liked it.  Still like it--using it with my Soliloquys now.  It's very small, maybe 11" cubed.  Same general design principle as the Sunfire jr.  Lists for $995, but I picked mine up shipped for $500.  That online place stopped selling shortly after I got mine, and the going price might be more like $600 these days.  Pinnacle also has a smaller one--the Subsonic which I think sells for about $400.  Can't say how that one performs.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>
Recorders:  Sound Devices MixPre-6, Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H4nPro

FWIW, I've been happy with mine as well - also paired with my MMGs.  Gonna upgrade those MMGs one of these days, though...   8)
