Another MT24/96 battery question....charging inssues
« on: November 15, 2006, 03:46:47 PM »
Probably already covered but my feeble search did not yield the answers I seek:

External battery packs will only work with the MT24/96 only if the internal battery is fully charged right?

I have a 9.6v > 5v juice box > MT2496  and the battery craps out during a recording if the internal battery is low even if an external battery pack is plugged in to the MT.

But as soon as I plug the MT into the wall with USB wall-wart the MT works fine with no shut down issues.

Does this mean that my external battery pack is not suppying enough juice?

Is it possible to run a MT2496 from an external battery pack if the internal battery is completely drained?

Thanks for any help.

When you plug in the battery, it should start to charge the MT in the upper right hand corner.  Usually during a show my MT will hit full charge and then put an electrical plug in the upper right hand corner.

I think there does need to be some amount of charge on the internal battery. I tried to record a show a few weeks ago as usual with my external battery, but I forgot to charge the MT beforehand. It kept shutting down and would not record. I've since done shows with the MT charged with no such issues.

The new one but, it has worked this way for me for a while.   If your MT battery is dead, it will take a while for the external to charge it enough so it can boot up.  Just like if you don't charge the MT for a while and you plug it in.  It takes a while to start up a first.

anhisr.

what kind of battery pack are you using?  My external packs do not ever give me the "plug" sign in the upper right hand corner.

also.... the fact that Im running microdrives instead of flash cards....would the extra power draw be causing my problems?

hitachi 6gb microdrive

It is called a socket.  I found it at a house sale.  5 volt 1.8 amp 7,200 mAh.  I usually get the all charged sign during the second set.  Oh, and I have only used compact flash.
