pultec style EQ?
« on: August 03, 2019, 11:01:34 AM »
Is a pultec style EQ any good at bringing out clarity in the bass frequencies on two track live recordings. Lately I've become disappointed in my recordings.

In very, very general terms I have found that bringing down the 100-150 Hz range can make the bass clearer by getting rid of some of the mud that often seems to live in that frequency range.

I have some hardware Pultec type eq’s, and don’t think I’ve ever used them for live recording bass tweaks. They sorta do the opposite of what I usually want.  With bass they do a certain boost thing that’s recognized for close mic studio recording.    They are great for presence or intelligibility boosts.

Thanks for the input. I'll refrain from buying a pultec. I do have a parametric eq, I'l try cutting the 100-150 Hz per Heathen's suggestions.
