The co2 is a format convertor used to convert spdif to toslink/optical.
Its made by m-audio. Nice small unit(about twice the size of a pack of cigarettes with the battery pack attached.
so its is for a uni that does not have a spdif out? like the Ua-5 has the optical outs so it does not need one?

Sooo, I have a little more Nomad news on my front.
I transferred my first show with the nomad last nite

Took a whopping 20 min. to transfer 2 80 min moe. sets via firewire and get them opened up in soundforge.

The software that comes with the nomad is a breeze.
It almost blew my mind!!!

I listened to the whole show and there is not a single audible porblem...to my ears anyway.

I love my new toy more everyday!!!

Thats good to hear. Still need to decide on what i want to do, its so frustrating. JB3 or dat or other? ??? With the whole the JB3 gives dropouts or other audio noise, I'm getting kinda nervous. Also,I dont want to break the bank only to find out that what i bout is no longer going to be used.

Good news is you dont necessarily have to break the bank to get the nomad. I got mine for 279.00 with a 3 year warranty with a 50.00 rebate.
so I have 229.00 in a jukebox that is guaranteed for 3 yrs.
I.m trying to sell my d7 to recuop the money, and I'll pretty much come out even.
I'm not the serious all out audiophile, so the minor glitches are not gonna kill me(although I havent heard or seen any yet)...as time progresses and I invest more here and there I will upgrade from the jb3, but I dont see that anytime soon.

oh yeah the batteries are RIDICULOUS!!
I paid 72.00 for 2 spares...36.00 each, ouch!

yea 250-325 isnt bad. However for a new D8 its 630 + Seven pin + sound card so that kinda breaking the bank. I'm really just looking for something to learn on then upgrade. and i think the JB3 is the way to go...

I'm in the same boat, I only started taping a year ago and have had a md a dat and now a jb3.
I'm mostly looking for easy to use and maintain a high level of quality.
The jury isnt out yet, but I am super satisified with the jb3 for now.

and screw transfering dats!!!!!!!

what is everyone saying is so bad about the JB3? Does it just have a pop or click once in a while or does it lose like 1 second of recording?

Preliminary7 testing revealed one or two dropouts, miliseconds in nature, but still dropouts.  FWIW, the new firmware has apparently fixed these problems, so they should no longer be an issue.

D,

They still are an issue but rarely.  Also generally they are an issue with CO2s and other convertors, but not when goign opti or line in.
