Back on topic...Im sure it depends on the size of the kit and drummer/style...

But my best recordings are with minimal drum micing...

Kick, snare/hat, overheads...like 4 mics.

Too many open drum mics can make a muddy mush out of a recording...

I'm going to trade the mixer and add a Peavey PV14 and try for a bit.  I've also glanced at the Soundcraft EFX12 for everything needed.  Just trying to see what makes a sound I was hoping for.

I had to mic a kit last weekend with only 2 mics! 1 on the kick and the other overhead... came out fairly respectable.

I've actually received my Peavey PV14 now.  I'm reading that I would run from the tape out on the PV14.  Like I said earlier, I patched out of the soundboard once so maybe I can figure out rather quick.  I'm going to run to my v3 and then to my hd-p2.  Since this mixer isn't powered, I'm just going to place every instrument in the band to make a recording.  But when we play live, I will use as my drum mixer and the p.a. we own to hook everyone else up to.

So far in the night I've hooked four mics up.  I'm going to try and record tomorrow night using the mk4 > kc5 > cmc6(2) and the f10(2) mics.  Tonight I hooked all up but couldn't get a signal to my hd-p2.  Anyone that owns an hd-p2 and has hooked to a mixer could help to make sure I can get the right cables and what should be connected.

Thanks

I'm ran xlr's out of the out on the PV14 > xlr's in on the HD-P2.  I had adjusted the level from spidf to mic to be able to get the recording to work.  The levels will have to be worked on tonight.  I'm going to maybe run 4 or 6 mics tonight at the State Theatre since I can't seem to pull a good recording the other way.
