Title: domestic powered speaker system that doesn't turn off!
Post by: andromedanwarmachine on October 21, 2014, 12:02:20 PM
hello team,

is anybody aware of a 'portable' decent (domestic/"MP3") powered speaker which doesn't turn itself off?

I need to source a small low wattage device- like this;

http://uk.jbl.com/jbl_product_detail_uk/jbl-micro-wireless-red.html

but which can sit without an input and remain on.

Let me re-phrase that; it must have the ability to sit inbetween programme material and remain powered. I am finding that such 'toy' speakers take the liberty of knocking themselves out after 30 minutes on idle.

Don't get me wrong- I am fully aware these things are not hi-fi or made by Genelec and am trying to source them for an industrial application which requires content to be played occasionally and inbetween that, sit patiently waiting for the next time.

any ideas- cost irrelevant!

thankyou

Sonos Play 1?

thankyou so far

why not an amp-speaker combo? size. I need something like a "big" paperback book.

Sonos Play1. I think I saw this today and I'm not sure I can run audio through the network connection- does that have an aux I/P in terms of an AF connection? I only saw an RJ45.

What exactly is it doing? It is one of a group of speakers which will sit together, but be independently fed, hopefully by this;

(I know, I know- it's for an industrial application!)

I've started to think it may have to be these;

which I'm guessing will sit "on" indefinitely...

thankyou

If a  small speaker like that JBL will really work for you, then I'd recommend one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-Ultraportable-Speaker-Players/dp/B001ELK2NY#

They have no circuitry that puts it to "sleep", so it will respond instantly when you finally play content to it.

Be sure to get the older version linked to above!  It looks like there's also a new version, and I bet it has power saving circuitry in it.

The Sonos Play 1 does not have any auxillary input.
