NEWB battery question
« on: February 17, 2005, 07:36:59 AM »
So i got a battery power supply with my ua-5 from Cactus (Thanks!). I have looked over the battery faqs extensivley as well as the other battery websites that people have suggested and i came to a conclusion that i have no clus what i am talking about. So here is a question:

Can i set up this same battery supply (i have 3 3000mah 9.6v NiMH battery packs) to power my dat or jb3 at the same time?? if so what will i need....i read the faqs and saw someone say its simple you just need a car adapter kit or something but i couldn't really get the picture. Any help is great Thanks!!!

its a lot of reading, but it'll answer every question you have and more.

yeah i have read through those a few times and i am still confused but i think i just may have found some answers

another question though (its quick) does MaH just a measure of the power it can hold?? so a 9 v 120 mah will work the same as a 3000 mah but with less power, maybe not even enough to power the device?

i haven't built one myself, but i'm guessing you could get similar car adapters anywhere.

as for the mah's, i dunno that one myself, i'm pretty sure you have it right - well kind of, the more mah's the longer it'll run a device.

i'm bad with power stuff, i just follow the how to diagrams.  haven't built the thing for the jb3 yet, but i'm pretty sure everything discussed about making them is in those two threads.

think of amps as the capacity

yes radio shack has car chargers.  look for one that is rated 1.5 amps.  Some people have had good luck from walmart.  Each device needs a specific voltage, or some devices can take a range of voltage.
UA5 will be happy with 9.6v
Jb3 wants 4.5-5.2
D8 6volts (i think, I'll have to look it up)
so if you want to use 9.6 volt power you will have to design something to make all devices happy (ie car adapter)

cool i think i am getting this...i found another thread talking about running multiple devices from one battery source and that helped....think i will be getting a car adapter from creative and then use a standard y connector so i can splice one of those ends off and still be able to use it in my car lighter (that should work right?). I just need to run all my powers in the same connection and all my negatives in the same connection (connecting batteries to devices) and as long as i have 9.6v running the my ua-5 and 5 dorect from the creative car charger i should be fine!
