Would this chain work?
« on: September 30, 2009, 08:19:57 AM »
Hi all.

I'm looking to put together a decent rig based around a pair of Peluso CEMC6s and an R44, but I was wondering how I could go about using the Pelusos with my R09HR.

Would I be able to use an ART Phantom 2 to power the mics and go from that into the R09HR? Also, would I require an external pre to use the Pelusos and the R09HR? I have an FEL preamp, so would it be feasible to go mics > art phantom > fel bma1 > R09?

Cheers the help folks.

it would work, you need a xrl > 1/8 from the art2 in the pre
depending on your levels you may or may not need the pre at all
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

^ That's kinda what I was thinking.  You might be able to get enough gain out of your recorder and not have to keep the BMA-1 in the chain.  You could always supply a little gain off the R09 and then add a little more in post if the recorder gets noisy at higher levels.

Thanks for starting this topic! I'm looking at getting a couple Studio projects c4s and the ART phantom 2 was mentioned as a great pairing but I still am wondering if I'll need my pre in the chain as well. Anyone have any experience with this?

I would put in my usual recommendation for a Naiant littlebox mic preamp.  It will provide phantom power for the peluso's and it incorporates a very nice sounding mic preamp.  All in a pretty small and low-priced package.

Search around a bit and you can find some littlebox preamp comps chuck and I have run.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
