They have been selling the 8GB Seagate drives directly from Amazon for $150 with free shipping. I picked one up and it work great in my D70 but will not fit in a R4 it is about twice the thickness of a standard CF card. I do notice it is a bit slower than my CF cards in my camera, but I'm generally not shooting large bursts of shots so it does not matter to me......

Any problems with them skipping in high volume situations? The manual for my HDP2 says not to use them because of this. Kirk

nick - why does everybody like the microdrives..?
in my experence, recording to the medium with the pda setup, and using it to store movies ripped from dvd to my psp (with the extension pad), microdrives BLOW.
i think the specs are bullsh*t, but i dont know the technical details to explain why. what i do know, from firsthand experience, is that they eat WAY too much battery, and use more overhead - the processer buffer would f*ck up when recording 16/48 and fubar my recording, when ss cf cards held steady @ 2%, which is what my sd card setup does now, with a stronger, more powerful pda. and with video - the microdrive hiccups, when the same clips play flawlessly, with no dropped frames, using the ss CF cards i have...
from these experiences - i dont think i would ever use a microdrive for critical tasks, like recording, ever again. last time i bought one, the ss cards were a bit more $$, but the security/peace of mind (to me) is totally worth it...
not trying to slam the deal that you posted, just throwing my thoughts out there...

Though, the 2mb cache is going to help a lot vs 128kb on the Hitachi's.

I just like the price per gig. I'd rather have an 8gb CF card, but 2x the price is steep...but worth it I suppose for reliability.
an 8gb micro for festivals would be nice though. Thats 12 hours at 16bit

I use one of the orange 8GB Seagate microdrives in my microtrack 24/96. I got the drive for something like $140 from Fry's electronics (outpost.com).
It was completely useless with the 1.2.3 firmware because it couldn't keep up (every file cut out large chunks of audio), but the added buffer time on 1.3.3 firmware update makes it functional. There is skipping for a few of the MP3 settings (48/96, 48/128, and 48/220), but it is flawless with everything else and all of the WAV settings up to 24/96.
It does take longer than anything else to start or finish a file (about 2 or 3 seconds after pushing "rec"), and file storage has been a bit idiosyncratic for me because it makes odd hidden files that my computer doesn't understand in addition to the recordings, but I've never lost anything. It also eats the battery like crazy (it only seems like I get 2 hours out of it sometimes), but for my purposes, I like the fact that I never have to worry about running out of storage space (though I still need to get some sort of small external battery pack).
However, I have only used it with the included T-mic and 1/8" line-in because I'm poor after shelling out $440 for a microtrack and the microdrive.

8gb ss cf cards are under $200 at newegg.com now. I haven't tried any yet though.
