direct from sony refurbs

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REFURBISHED-16-2-MP-Sony-Cyber-shot-Digital-Camera-HX9V-Black-DSCHX9V-B-/260927533888?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item3cc07e3340

Can't help but wonder...if they are well made...why would there be refurbs available for a camera that can't be more than a year or two old?

Besides the original Sony battery, what batteries are you guys using with this camera?

I picked up a pair of these generics from Amazon, but they're crap:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032GWZXE

Despite charging overnight, I can't get more than a half hour with them on the HX9V.

Definitely need some more batteries, and while I don't want to pay out the ass for Sony batteries, I also don't want to waste any more money on batteries that don't work.

Any suggestions?

BTW, here's what I was able to capture on my first run with the camera (video):

I actually have 4 of those and they seem to work OK in mine. I get anywhere from 45-65 minutes per battery. Not quite as long as the Sony original, but for $5-6 a piece I am ok with them.

Thanks Chris. I'm wondering if it's the charger. I'm using the camera to charge one of them now for the first time and will see if that's any better. Had one of the batteries on the charger it came with for ~12 hours yesterday and had zero charge. :(

Nice work per usual, Chris.

Turns out the problem for me with those batteries was the charger. It just doesn't work at all. Charged the batteries in the camera and got 60 minutes a piece out of them. Not quite the same juice as the stock battery, but also not horrible for ~$5 each.

Here's 2 nights of Primus I shot with the HX9V last week:

Picked up a second HX9V.  ;D

Here's a quick and dirty edit of one song from a shoot I did the other night. The 2 HX9Vs are the stationary cams (wide shot and right-side stage), with its bigger brother, the HX100V, handheld:

Dave, Chris, and anyone else shooting 1080 with this HX9V - are you stopping/starting between songs? How much time does this take?

I'm using a Samsung videocam that limits file size to 15mins in 1080, but it auto starts a new "chapter" and I can link up chapters seamlessly in post. Can this be done with the HX9V?

Not happy with the low-light results on the Samsung and these videos you guys've shot look great.

It's not a seamless stop/start. It takes at least a few seconds.

You hit the file size limit (2GB) every ~10 minutes when recording at highest quality. These files are seamless.

However, it will only record for ~30 minutes at a time, then it stops, writes, and you have to hit record again. You'll lose a few seconds here, every time you have to hit record again.
