I ran them in my Femto 5 or 6 times and never had a problem.

so I just put two fresh off the charger powerex 9.6v in my new femto and it reported 23.2 volts!  I checked with a multimeter and sure enough they are 11.6v on a fresh charge.  The femto specs say "Powering: 2 x 9V batteries (type 6LR61) or external (12-18V)"

So is this a no-no to use these in the femto?  I plan to send them an email and ask but thought I'd ask here.  I've used these a handful of times in the littlebox without issue.

Hmm.  So testing last night just running pandora on my computer though my monitor speakers.  4 hours or less with the Beyer 950's.  These are borrowed mics as mine are out for service.  I noticed at Son Volt the other night that the Beyers seem to run way hotter than my Neumann's (with same battery but in the littlebox).  So the next part makes is stranger....

With normal Duracell 9v's the femto ran much hotter than with the powermax in it.   In fact with the powerex it would not even peak with full gain and me tapping the caps!  That is not right.  With normal Duracell it seemed fine.

So my non scientific testing leads me to believe the powerex are not ok in the femto.

How old are your Powerex 9.6V batteries?
Are you measuring their voltage with them in an open circuit condition (not powering anything) or while under load?

As the batteries age, their internal resistance increases, which is essentially what causes them to no longer perform correctly.  Measured directly out of the charger in an open circuit condition, and old battery with high internal resistance will often indicate correct fully charged voltage, but as soon as it is put under load the voltage will drop very quickly to questionable levels.  Figure a way to test voltage with the battery in the preamp with the preamp running.  Alternately you could measure the battery's voltage with an appropriate sized load resistor across the terminals.

This may not be the problem in your case, but it's the first thing that comes to mind, and I've experienced it myself numerous times.  It was confusing until I understood what was going on.

I bought them new right before Christmas.  I've used them in the Littlebox once or twice and we had one my daughters remote control car.  So new and barely used.  I could see not being power cycled a few times being an issue.  To me that doesn't explain why the mics were not running nearly as hot.  Like I said with the powermax it would not even peak with full gain and me tapping the caps!

Testing was done "open circuit" right off the charger with a multimeter.  The Femto actually has a battery voltage display.  That's how I first noticed the high voltage.

Hmm. Not sure what to suggest then, except to emphasize checking battery voltage under load to assure an accurate reading, yet the internal Femto display should be doing that. Good luck with trouble shooting it.

Powerex also offers a standard 9V version (8.something volts nominal I think) which has a higher mAhr rating than the 9.6Vs

Just ordered a couple of the 8.4v 300 mAh to test out.  Thanks

less than 4 hours on the 8.4v version.  this was still with the beyer's which seem to run hotter than my ak40's.  we'll see how they do but so far not impressed with these in the Femto.  I don't have any new regular 9v to test.  may find 2 with the highest voltage and see how they do.

FWIW: I use the rechargeable batteries from iPower (8.4V, 520 mAh) and Litelong (8.4V, 880mAh) and both brands are working fine with my Audioroot Femto preamp.
I was a bit sceptical about the Litelong Li-Ion batteries at first but, so far, they're ageing better than the ones from iPower.

I was thinking about this a few days ago and realized that when I had my Femto I didn't have LSD version of the Powerex 9.6v rechargeables, I had the original white and yellow ones.

The voltage indicator will turn red when the unit
is powered from it's internal batteries and if the
battery level is to low. The user should then replace
the batteries as soon as possible. The low voltage
threshold is set to 13.5V (2 x 6.75V). This threshold is
compatible with rechargeable Lithium-polymer batter
ies.

6. Batteries compartment. This compartment is design
ed to receive 9V 6LR61 or PP3 batteries.
Audioroot recommends using alcaline or high power r
echargeable lithium-polymer batteries. Please
respect the + and – polarities. Never leave batteri
es in the unit during storage. Use only first
choice alcaline or rechargeable batteries.

AUTONOMY:
The autonomy of the AUDIOROOT FEMTO depends directly
from the power source (battery type) and microphones
connected to the unit. Typical autonomy with 2 iPOWERUS
520mAh lithium-polymer batteries and 2 SCHOEPS CMC64Ug
microphones is 5 to 6 hours. This autonomy rises with
dynamic microphones, alcaline batteries or an external
power source

-------------------------------------------------

Last time I ran the Femto with MBHOs (2x KA500HN + MBP 603) at an indoor festival in Brussels, the Litelong batteries were still close to 14.9-15V after ~3 hours.  So, I'd assume that the 5h estimate is correct for these mics and P48.

As quoted above, battery life also depends on the actual draw of your microphones. So your mileage may vary.

Got 4:23 hrs with the neumann's and the Femto using the 8.4v 300 mAh powerex.

Seeing this with the 8.4 and the 9.6v powerex.

Testing runtime with the 9.6 and neumann's now.  Don't really like using more voltage than it says to though.  Again those start around 20-21v.  After 2.5 hours they are at 18.9v.  Femto says it's 12-18v.

edit:  the 9.6 got me 5:29 hrs.  Still not sure about running it above 18v though!

Ordered a couple of these to test.

I think we have a winner!  Rated 9v 650mAh.  Full charge in the Femto read 16.4v so not true 9v so I wasn't expecting much different than the other ones I've tested.  Non scientific testing recording talk radio with mics right on the speaker (so no high spl, pretty much same as other testing) I got 9 hours and 2 minutes with these in the Femto!

Good to hear!

That seems in line with expectation. When I was researching alternate 9Vs, the rechargeable lithiums seemed to have the highest mAhr capacity but at a reduced voltage of 8.4-ish nominal.

Just ordered another set and will test more but so far so good!

This did not happen with the Bakth.  not even full gain, tapping the caps caused levels to peak as expected.

Bumping this thread, I'd love to stop throwing away 3 9-volts at a time for my Aerco preamps. So what is the consensus? What does everyone like for rechargeable 9 volts and charging stations?

Are these still working well for you?
