Sennheiser HD650 earpads + mods + measurements
« on: October 31, 2015, 10:28:59 PM »
After over a decade of owning them, the HD650 remains favorites of mine despite having tried newer, more expensive headphones (including their HD800 out of a Benchmark DAC1 Pre) and having decent speaker setup.  They're forgiving, so they allow me to listen to my far-from-perfect head-baffled live recordings without emphasizing bass bloat and/or harsh treble in the original recording.  On the other hand, they're good at detail retrieval and allow me to hear subtle details I didn't notice live with my earplugs on.

Anyways, Sennheiser has updated the stock earpads and they do seem to subjectively improve the sound for me a bit; and measurements seem to confirm it:
