Analog/Digital interface for new MacBook Pro
« on: November 09, 2016, 11:51:26 PM »
Just picked up a new MacBook Pro and was looking around for a new analog/digital interface to use via the thunderbolt 3 inputs. Just curious what interfaces people are using and what units are worth considering. I only need a single stereo input/output and a coaxial digital input. I was using a audiophile 2496 with my PC so I'd obviously like an interface that has A>D's comparable to the quality of that sound card. Thoughts?? Thanks!

I have the Zoom U44, a Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 and a Behringer. The Zoom is a little more versatile in terms of ports (like it has S/PDIF Optical or Coaxial Input). The Behringer can only do up to 24/48 while the other two are 24/96. The pre-amps are all decent. But they are all USB ultimately. One with Thunderbolt to laptop is going to be pricier. What specific things are you interested in?

Are you willing to go with a USB interface and use an adapter cable?

Thunderbolt interfaces are pricey and a USB based interface is more than adequate for your needs.

I have no problem using an adapter. I assumed I would have to seeing that the new MacBook has only thunderbolt3 inputs. I used an Audiophile 24/96 and an SBM1 in the past so ideally I want something which has digital inputs as well as something that is equal to or greater then the analog to digital converters used in those mentioned units I have used in the past.
