SP-cmc-25 sensitivity?
« on: December 01, 2016, 09:00:53 PM »
Asking for a friend who recently bought some SP CMC-25s,

Are these mics considerably hotter/more sensitive than for example 4.7k modded SP-CMC-8 or SP-CMC-4?

Meters peaking at -3 db, line in with rec level 2/10 on a Sony M10 when recording a rock show from behind soundboard in a big venue sounds a bit alarming.
SP-cmc-25 users, what are your experience with these mics?

(I thoght these mics donĀ“t need a low sens mod, is that correct?)

I don't know in a comparative sense to those but I've never had anything baked with the levels set appropriately and have never had anything to loud to get there.

What sort of preamp is involved?

They may lean slightly hot but as I recall I tend to need slightly more level from the M10 for them than for the Schoeps.  I mostly go to relatively quiet stuff but run shows at roughly 3/10 with the Tinybox at mid.

Which BB?  I'd check with SP perhaps.  As I recall the few times I used an SP BB box with mine they didn't seem real sensitive (I had to go mic in on really quiet stuff).

SPSB-10 line in M10. Still really hot as M10 had to be at 2/10 not to overload.
