Movo windscreens (outdoor)
« on: December 27, 2016, 04:30:41 PM »
These windscreens have been out for a while.

3cm covers most mics we use, whether full bodies or actives.
The pictures below are the 3cm models.

I wanted to hear your thoughts on:

1) Quality of construction
2) Effectiveness
3) Comparison to competitors (DPA & Shure)

I want to buy a pair, but I'm not sure which one of the two to buy.
I will be using them with AKG C460b/ck22.

The price is fantastic.  WS50  $13.95/ea, WST50 $15.95/ea

Thanks!

I've been using the WS50 all year; think mine are the 6 cm version on my AT4041's. Love 'em. Had them in some pretty stiff breezes and have yet to hear noise. Construction seems solid. Not noticed any loss of high end. And the price is certainly right.

If you're running full bodies, I'm not sure why you would use the 3cm vs. the 6cm?

They're totally worth the price.  I've got the bottom type and they're great.  I haven't owned them but I've heard the fur style shed hairs a little bit.

Can you upload a picture of your 4041's?  The WS50 is definitely 3cm, not 6cm.

I'm running full bodies.  I certainly don't want to buy the wrong size.   I appreciate any help.

I have the black 6cm ones for my AKG 461. I also have the Big Shures.  The Shures are a bit better, but the Movo's have been good too.  Only a bit of wind noise on strong gusts that I didn't hear with the Shures.  The Movo's worked perfectly in steady wind while on my Studio Projects C4 mics with the Omni caps.

Great feedback.  A picture of that setup would be appreciated.  I'm trying to stay away from buying the Shures, only because they gobble up bag-space.

The 6cm are are slightly smaller than Shures

I wonder about boundary, and reflection effects from that big flat base.  Are they dish shaped on the inside, or flat?

How does the insertion depth compare when using Schoeps actives vs. full bodies? Being able to get the base further from the diaphragm would reduce potential impact.

Is the windscreen foam permeable? Can you blow through the foam (from the side, not the mic hole), like you can with a shure or dpa? The windtechs, in comparison, are made with cheap foam that is not permeable.

Finally, anyone done any comps with demanding source material? Both vs. no screen and compared to DPAs and Shures while recording non-amplified material? That tends to reveal the sonic impact of windscreens. Also, the quiet passages tend to make wind noise more obvious.

On the 4041's. Not the best photo........The 6cm cover the "capsule" portion completely. If you tried to stuff some active caps in there they would probably go too far

Here we go, these are a little better. Just to add also, if these have been shedding fur, I haven't noticed. Hell, at this price point just get a fresh pair for the new taping season :headphones:

Thanks. That's the sound company's small rig too. They run a bigger array for festies and such. And it's always free :headphones: Hard to pull a bad tape here......
