iso mic selection help
« on: May 05, 2003, 08:59:11 PM »
im looking into buying some new or used mics

been looking at some akg 391's-c1000s and such

looking at a price range of around 500, new or used

i can get a set of new in box 391s on ebay for 500 and it seems that they would be alot better for the extra bucks than the c1000's

for most part il be taping a local jamband that i somewhat do sound for, but would also like to be able to tape bigger bands in indoor and outdoor venues

il be for the most part running dfc 15-20 ft from stage

any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated

im not sure what else il be running for pre/ad as all i have now is a m1, but i figured mics first then pre/ad based on that purchase

hmm, poney up alitte more, $100-$200, puts you into a range of great mics, used geffell M300's, probably score some ADK 51 Tl's also in that price range, you will be glad you did.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd start with ADK 51TLs.  Shoot, I may pick up a pair to run just for those occasions where I wanna run omnis or hypers - I just can't justify spending the cash on the other Schoeps caps.  Welllllll....   8)

Thats funny Brian, I was thinking the same thing, with the damn price increase getting the Omni or figure 8 that I wanted is just too expensive now, thank god I got my schoeps when I did. In that $600-$800 range you can get the TL's and I just might do that so I can get the omni and figure 8 pattern along with a new flavor or card and hyper.

Talk to Jason B, he would be more than happy to tell you about the TL's

I love my M300's...  $800, IIRC, new from Oade Bros.

I see 'em pop up on occasion used.  They are FANTASTIC mics, IMO.

If you want any sample discs, let me know and we'll work something out..!
