Topic: Messed up recording, how the hell do i fix it?

Friday night I recorded the Nickel Creek show at the Norva.  Monitoring it during the show, everything sounded great.  I was borrowing gear, and had never used any of it before (MBHO 603As > UA5).  I had the UA5 set for 24/96 and had a recording set up in Spark XL for a SDII file at 24/96 as well.  The problem is that in the "hardware setup" in Spark the UA5 was set for 44.1 khz.  

What happened was that the UA5 was only sending a 44.1khz signal but the computer was reading it in at 96khz.  So looking at the file, it says it's only 33 mins (each set i did as a separate file), even though it was twice as long as that.  Listening to the recording shows that it's basically at double speed...

Is there any way to change the file so that it's 44.1?  I thought I read somewhere about changing header information or something, but I'm not sure.  I was the only taper there that night, and I was a dumbass and didn't run any kind of backup.  I really don't want to lose this tape as it sounded amazing at the show.

Change the header in wavelab.   I am not sdure how to do it, but I actually need to do it myself anyway on one of my shows, so I will figure it out tonight!

john, see if there's a way you can change the sample rate of the file in spark without actually resampling...in essence just set the rate to 96khz and that should "stretch" the samples back out to normal...but don't do any changes that actually require processing on your cpu, this should be an instant change.  at least, that's the way it would work in wavelab or similar pc software, i can't imagine spark being any different.
having never even seen spark though, i wouldn't be able to tell you how to do that.

I looked in Spark and I didn't see any way to change it.  I have a PC and I could probably try out Wavelab, but I don't have a copy of it.  Anyone know how to do it on a Mac?

If not, anyone want to send me an "evaluation" copy of Wavelab?

"Change values in the soundfile header (sample rate, number of channels, loop points and marker info)."

Well, turns out it's not the recording at all.  There is a switch on the back of the UA5 that needs to be flipped in order to do 24/96, something I was not aware of.  Looks like my recording is just completely gone.

Well, you could try doing a time stretch in your software to salvage it. It's a feature in Sound Forge; not perfect, but better than losing the damned thing.

Nah, there's static all over it.  I thought it was due to the resampling while I was playing it, but it's actually the way it was recorded.  Sucks, but now I know to always run my backup.
