Sharp MD-MT15 help
« on: October 25, 2003, 01:23:58 PM »
I have been having problems with one of my minidiscs that I used to tape last Monday. When I try to play it, it says "UTOC ERROR". Anyone have a clue what this means. If so, is there a way to fix it? Please let me know.

TOC = table of contents
was it (the minidisc) recorded with a different deck? sometimes decks won't read mds recorded on other decks

recorded with the same gear. all of the other discs I used on that recorder from the two nights work fine. just that one is messed up. looks like the error may not be fixable, according to some websites. Let me know otherwise.

Jarod:

I understand this is a fairly common problem with some Sharp portable MD recorders.  I tried the following Google search and came up with a ton of information:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=MD-MT15+utoc+error

Good luck,
Chuck

i wouldn't even know where to start on fixing a TOC error.  All I can think of doing is trying to play it in as many units as possible.

I might try that. I wanted to listen to it before I sent it out to be converted so I can track it, but I will see if that guy can get it to work. If not, oh well. Luckily I wasn't the only taper. Thanks again :).

your deck could just use cleaning. also take all the batteries out of the unit, it erases any random memory, and then put them back in and try it. then try other decks. often times i'll get a utoc error after taping a whole disc but it ends up fine thank goodness.

I recently had the same problem w/ my MD-MT15 last week. I unplugged the unit from the power source for a few minutes, then I just kept trying to insert the disc over and over. Finally after about 20 tries it worked and the playback was not harmed at all. I havent tried the disc agian, but I dont think it was a random error since the other discs from the same recording worked fine. Hope this helps.
